AvianActs: AAP Application

Our Microsoft Access based 'AAP' Applicatiion is custom designed for collecting data on avian, animal and insect populations as well as their reliance on flowering and fruiting plants and trees in the habitat under study. Local avian species populations are compared with species populations in larger regions and may be correlated with other published reports. Detailed nesting data of local breeding birds is also tracked to record the breeding success rates of the species. The tool features many queries for generating summary tables and graphical representations for ease of viewing. It is a very useful tool for designing wildlife friendly gardens or creating habitats for favored species or those facing population declines.

The data entry forms in the 'AAP' Application include location, details on the species count, breeding code by gender wherever possible, observations on foraging, and checks to avoid common errors in entering data. There is a provision to record the local environmental conditions as well. Sightings are averaged over a week to smooth out daily variations in observer effort and weather fluctuations. The application is self-contained with other popular features for birders such as lifelist and year-by-year sightings.
